A Guide To Final Cut Pro X

Sometimes when you start a new Subject that you have never done before, you can be bombarded with new information and new systems. One of these subjects can be media, I have never done media before so when I came into this subject I found a new system I had never used or even heard of before. This system is called final cut pro X. It is an editing software used to design and edit clips to your liking.

How do I use it?

When you launch the application you will be taken to a screen to something similar to this:
This is an example of an completed project, once you learn the basics of the software you should be able to make yours just like this, When you enter the application you will need to upload your chosen clip to edit, This is how you do it.


This simple clip highlights key features such as Crop, Trim and Cut, these are the main features you need to learn to do, here are some definitions.

Cut

This is the basic tool used to change the length of the clip to modify it to evolve into to clips or to decrease the length of the clip you are cutting.

Trim

This tool is used to trim the size and length of the clip you are editing, very useful if you need to merge to clips into one.

Crop

 The Crop Tool cuts out a defined area deleting or hiding the rest of a clip or image, useful for when you don't want a certain part of a clip.

Top Tips

  • Maximise your use of features, there are plenty of advanced tools that can make your clips stand out, some of these include:

Magnetic Timeline: Edits footage in a storyline without knocking any other clips or audio out of place at other points of the Timeline.
Multi-cam: The multi-cam tool, supports up to 64 angles of photos and videos.
  • You can customise the command tools to your liking, i.e. you can change the layout to your liking

  •  Add Audio key-frames in the timeline  got to Option + click audio clip volume line in an audio clip in the Timeline.




To conclude, when you come across a new system it is always useful to look up some key points that can help to become more effective at the software, I found that there is a final cut pro X for dummies that can be purchased.
