Preliminary Task

Today we were given our first preliminary task, The task entails:

'Continuity task involving filming and editing, A character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom he/she then exchanges a couple lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, Shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.'

Research into 180 Degree rule and Match-on action and shot/reverse Shot

The 180 degree rule, camera position and eye-line. When you film a scene using separate shots, it's important that people understand where everything in the scene is. The 180 degree rule will help you do this. Imagine you're looking at a scene from the side.

Match-on action is an editing technique where the film cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first-actions shot. An example is a man reaching for a doorknob.

Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.
